The Goal Post Keeps Moving

I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately around goal setting and management. I think as a business owner it’s really easy for us to get set on achieving a goal - especially that mysterious six-figure business label. Or maybe it’s hiring the first employee. Maybe it’s five years in business. You name it. Anything like that.

However, more recently, I’ve been really asking myself and my clients what does ‘Success mean to you?’ and then we start to get to the bottom of where that goal is coming from.

Ultimately, goals do need to have a purpose, but also it helps people to continue to grow and develop.

How do we know when we’ve achieved those goals?

Is it when we hit six figures and then we just stop? No. Of course not. There’s always going to be another goal we want to hit.

However, maybe it’s time to look at goals not as growth metrics but rather whatever metric we want. Maybe it’s just simply a maitenance metric. ‘I still want to be helping 35 clients this year’ is a goal but not growth.

Let’s give ourselves permission to stop moving the goal post and instead sit in the zone and enjoy it.
